Update: Planning application has now been registered by the council. More information…
Update: Click here to download a landscape overview. (This plan does not detail any of the fencing, or floodlighting. The flood lights are shown on the plan as 6 small squares surrounding the match pitch and the astro turf pitch)
There was a public consultation held for 2 consecutive weekends, on the 9th and 16th of August at the club where the plans were displayed. Invitation to this was to a small number of local residents by letter. As part of that letter, recipients were told that if they could not attend, to use the contact form on the clubs website. The form doesn’t work, so ringing the club directly got the right result. Rob Turley (Vice Chairman & CEO) arranged a viewing of the plans on a separate occasion. If you would like to request a viewing, you could try the same. the club’s contact details are here.
As yet, we’re not aware that the plans are available for public viewing via the City Council Planning portal. As soon as they are we’ll post a link up here with a planning reference.
The picture below shows the area affected by the development, and the land purchased.

Land Purchased and Development Area at Hardy Farm
This is even more shocking: it was not made clear at all in the consultation that an even greater area of land right down to the river had been purchased……
This looks more and more like a strategic purchase in the light of the metrolink development.
If who ever the owner is gets planning permission for the ‘development area’ then what’s next for the larger area?

The development area is bad enough but you really have to worry about the other area. My partner used to work for the University and knows they’ve held onto it for years so will have got a a ‘premium’ price for it.
Surely they wont get planning permission for houses!??! Surely the Environment Agency would have something to say about the flood defenses and the fact parts of it are flood plains?
I see their idea…..extend Hardy Lane then argue that the infrastructure is in place for houses. Disgusting.
You just know it’s only a matter of time before the whole area is developed.
This is worse than I thought. How can Rob Turley of been allowed to purchase all the land right up to the river. The area beyond the development site was not University of Manchester owned, so who has sold this? For one thing it has a Transco main in the verge alongside the footpath as well as overhead power lines. It’s just not acceptable I am against it 100%.
No! It’s a shocker! Can’t believe the extent of the proposals and right up to the Mersey! This area is too precious to the cummunity at large.
Where is the sustainability in this? Does the community really gain enough from the pitches to offset the physical and visual impact both by day and night?
